Pharmacology

Travoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing aqueous humor outflow, primarily through the uveoscleral pathway.

Indications

Used for reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in:

• Ocular hypertension
• Open-angle glaucoma

Dosage & Administration

• One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily
• Preferably in the evening
• Or as directed by a physician

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the preparation.

Side Effects

Common adverse effects include:

• Brown pigmentation of the iris
• Eyelash growth changes
• Conjunctival hyperemia
• Dry eye
• Eye discomfort
• Skin hyperpigmentation
• Prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy (PAP)

Warnings & Precautions

Use cautiously in patients with:

• Uveitis or intraocular inflammation
• Risk factors for macular edema

Additional precautions:

• Remove contact lenses before use
• Reinsert after 15 minutes

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies risk.
Caution is advised during lactation.

• Store at 2°C–25°C
• Protect from light
• Keep in a dry place
